Tucked beneath the award-winning YTB on the corner of Chapel Street and Toorak Road, Yūgen Dining is a striking subterranean venue redefining South Yarra’s dining scene. Yūgen’s meaning in Japanese is ‘a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe’, and this concept of hidden beauty is clear from the moment you arrive. Stepping off the busy street and descending via the glass-walled lift or light-up staircase, guests are transported into a dramatic, cavernous space with six-metre-high ceilings bathed in golden light. Here, a range of dining and drinking options are on offer. The space comprises an 85-seat restaurant, sweeping bar, private dining spaces, specialised six-seat Omakase bar, and a VIP dining Golden Orb, suspended high in the air – offering a dining experience like no other.
